Teleconferences with stakeholders / Introductory Presentations

The aim of action C4 is to improve [or change] the attitude and behaviour of the involved social partners towards bats, caves, cave life and their management.

Troglometers / Prototype, cave monitoring devices

On Friday, 12/11/2021, an Online Seminar was held for the presentation of the LIFE GRECABAT Troglometer devices. The presentation was attended by speleologists and other stakeholders, followed by a short discussion [total duration one hour].

LIFE GRECABAT Online Seminar for cave monitoring devices (Troglometer)

LIFE GRECABAT organizes an online seminar for the presentation of the devices and the operation of the Troglometer, the recording system developed for the monitoring of abiotic parameters of caves and bat colonies.

Recommendations for visits to important bat roosts

One of the seemingly "innocent" but often detrimental pressures on the program's bat species is the human presence in important roosts, whether for speleological expeditions, archeological excavations, or other scientific activities or leisure visits. Especially during the period of birth and upbringing of newborns (nurseries, May - July) but also in winter (November-February), in the coldest caves, human presence can lead to mass deaths immediately or in the medium term.

Action C5- Information Entry Form for Bats and Cave Fauna

The study of cave life had from its beginnings benefited optimally from non-professional cavers, who with their courage and dedication, contributed to the collection of data/information from places unknown and inaccessible to most researchers of their time.

Intending to enhance citizen science, LIFE GRECABAT, among other things, developed a special application for smart devices (smartphones & tablets) and web browsers.

The second conference of LIFE GRECABAT in Heraklion, Crete

The second conference of LIFE GRECABAT “Caves and Bats: Towards an Integrated Protection and Management" took place on December 20th and 21st 2019 in Heraklion, Crete.

Action C2.2: Creation of a cost effective, transferable and replicable cave and bat monitoring system (Prototype)

A three unit data logging prototype was developed by the MAKERSPACE collaboration with and on behalf of the Hellenic Institute of Speleological Research (HISR / INSPEE) as part of the LIFE-GRECABAT project. The Troglometer is a set of battery-powered environment sensors, connected to datalogging devices, which are optimized for use in harsh and high-humidity environments. There are three main data-logging modules, which make up the Troglometer: a.
