  • Greece’s largest bat colony recorded in Achaea

    The largest bat colony in Greece and one of the most important winter colonies in Europe was discovered by researchers of LIFE GRECABAT program.

    The discovery was recorded in the unvisited part of the Cave of Lakes, Kastria, Achaea, which hosts more than 18,000 common bent – wing bats (Miniopterus schreibersi) and nine additional species at different times of the year. This finding was made in collaboration with the Cave Management and Chelmos-Vouraikos Management Body.

    LIFE GRECABAT participated in the 1st International Bat Night that took place on 22nd of September, 7:00 pm, at the Amphitheatre of the Municipality of Peristeri, Attica. The speakers of the event were Professor of Biodiversity at the Department of Biology of the University of Athens, Anastasios Legakis, Biologist, M.Sc., specialist in the use of special ultrasound receivers for bats, Ioannis Ioannidis, and Dr.

  • Action A4 - Questionnaires (targeting different groups of stakeholders)
    The LIFE GRECABAT project is conducting the first social-environmental baseline survey on the attitudes of different stakeholders and citizens towards bats, caves and cave organisms. This survey aims to quantitatively and qualitatively assess the beliefs, attitudes and behaviours of specific population groups in the project areas and to assess their willingness to support conservation and management actions. Thus, the questionaries that prepared are: • (Q01) - Cave managers (employees and executives of management bodies, local authorities, municipal enterprises, etc.) • (Q02) - Specialised visitors to the caves (archaeologists, biologists, geologists, speleologists etc.) • (Q03) - Tourism professionals • (Q04) - General population • (Q05A) - Visitors/Tourists of the caves (Greeks) • (Q05B) - Cave Visitors/Tourists (Foreigners) • Interview questionnaire
