Winter visit to the Psimaki Cave in Chania Regional Unit
Psimaki Cave is a small but very important bat’s cave in Crete. Situated a few kilometers north of Argyroupoli, in the border of Chania and Rethymno regional units, it is opened in newly formed limestone and was formerly an underground river. The LIFE-GRECABAT research team visited the cave on 30 January 2019 to substantiate its biological significance and conservation needs. The invertebrate fauna was studied for the first time.
We are very grateful to the speleologists of the Greek Mountaineering Club of Chania and the HISR who voluntarily participated in our mission.
