LIFE GRECABAT in the 1st International Bat Night

LIFE GRECABAT participated in the “1st International Bat Night in Greece” that took place in Peristeri Municipality on 22nd of September 2019. The event was held under the auspices of the United Nations Environmental Programme UNEP/EUROBATS (https://www.eurobats.org) and supported by the Department of Biology of the University of Athens, PanHellenic Union of Bioscientists and Hellenic Speleological Society.

After the end of presentations, the invited lecturers (Professor Legakis Anastasios, Dr. Papamichail Georgios and Biologist-Researcher Mr. Ioannidis Ioannis), answered to the questions of the audience, such as: reproductive biology of bats, ethology, echolocation signal, species identification, difficulties of field researching for bats, as well as the importance of bats for the ecosystem. The “1st International Bat Night in Greece” ended with a demonstration of the special equipment for detecting bats (bat detectors) in the courtyard of the Town Hall by Professor Legakis and Mr. Ioannidis.
