LIFE GRECABAT's third social message about bats and ecosystem services they provide and stresses the need to protect them.
The largest bat colony in Greece and one of the most important winter colonies in Europe was discovered by researchers of LIFE GRECABAT program.
The discovery was recorded in the unvisited part of the Cave of Lakes, Kastria, Achaea, which hosts more than 18,000 common bent – wing bats (Miniopterus schreibersi) and nine additional species at different times of the year. This finding was made in collaboration with the Cave Management and Chelmos-Vouraikos Management Body.

The LIFE GRECABAT project participates in the 1st International Bat Night, taking place in Greece on 22th of September, 7:00 p.m., at the Amphitheatre of Peristeri Municipality, Athens.

The LIFE GRECABAT team, in cooperation with Management Body of Cyclades’ Protected Areas, the Naxos Island Wildlife Protection and the Municipality of Naxos and the Small Cyclades, is organizing an event celebrating the European Natura 2000 Day on Tuesday May 21, 2019 from 17:30 until 20:30, at the building of the Greek-French School of Ursulines, Naxos.
In the beginning of September 2018 LIFE-Nature "Greek Caves and Bats: Management Actions and Change of Attitudes", LIFE17 NAT/GR/000522 - LIFE GRECABAT, was launched.
Its goal is to inform the public about cave animals, implement new monitoring systems and promote integrated cave management.
