The cavernicolous ground beetle, nominated Cave Animal of the Year 2021 for Greece

In the framework of the actions for the International Year of Caves and Karst (IYCK2021) the Hellenic Institute of Speleological Research (HISR) created the page "Greece - Cave Animal of the Year". https://www.facebook.com/CaveAnimalOfTheYearGreece.gr

The page will present a species of cave animal from Greece every year to inform and raise awareness about the creatures of the underground environment of our country.

For the first year of this initiative, the cavernicolous ground beetle 𝙇𝙖𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙪𝙨 𝙫𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙖𝙞 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐞, 𝟏𝟗𝟖𝟖, was selected, which is an endemic species of the Aliartos sinkhole, studied in the LIFE GRECABAT program.
